I use to work in a Montessori daycare that had a first-grade class as well in Palms, Los Angeles. It had been around for 30+ years! While I'm more of a play-based educator, the lessons I learned were invaluable.
The Montessori Method has shown me how it is a useful curriculum to teach children how to behave, manipulate household objects like a broom or pouring water without spilling it into a cup, spelling, mathematics, and science.
Actually, for my baby shower, I had asked everyone to buy only Montessori-inspired toys- materials. That's right. The Montessori teacher that I was an assistant too would remind me that these are learning materials and not toys. Anyway, I asked everyone to purchase Montessori materials instead of those plastic and sometimes loud toys. I wanted to foster a calming environment to Baby GG. Almost all Montessori materials are beautifully made wooden items that have marvelous paintings on them.
